Peucetia viridana (Stoliczka, 1869) (Family: Oxyopidae)

Common name: Green lynx spider

Size: Female 10-12 mm, Male 8-10 mm

Distribution: India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka

Description: Cephalothorax longer than wide, moderately high, with brown spots; cephalic region high and broad, clothed with a few spines, centre with deep fovea which is greenish in colour. Posterior row slightly procurved and situated in equal distance. Anterior row strongly recurved, middle eyes the smallest and lateral eyes the largest. Clypeus long and with two black lines extending from base of anterior middle eyes. Sternum heart shaped, pointed behind, clothed with spines and hair. Legs long and strong, clothed with conspicuous black spots and black long spines. Abdomen long, narrowing behind, clothed with fine hairs, mid-dorsally with a longitudinal deep brown line with lateral branches. Ventrum with a broad conspicuous longitudinal chalk-white band extending from the epigastric fold to the base of the spinnerets.

Natural History: Common in hairy grass fields during daytime and show some degree of host plant preference or association.
